Safetion is a breakthrough mobile application concept designed to map and alert users about high-risk crime zones, particularly areas prone to muggings and street robberies in Surabaya. Developed through a Design Thinking approach, the app focuses on delivering a seamless UI/UX experience while addressing real urban safety challenges.
What Problem Did We Solve?
Surabaya, as one of Indonesia’s major metropolitan cities, is grappling with a surge in violent crimes, particularly muggings. Citizens often feel vulnerable, uninformed, and disconnected from proper reporting channels. Key issues identified include:
- Lack of real-time awareness about crime-prone locations.
- Limited accessibility to crime reports and law enforcement channels.
- Ineffective distribution of public safety information.
- Absence of community-based digital tools to foster vigilance.
What Solution Does Safetion Offer?
Safetion delivers a user-centric digital safety ecosystem. Its solutions are meticulously engineered to:
- Visualize Danger Zones : Safetion deploys a real-time heatmap that highlights red (high risk) and yellow (moderate risk) zones using geographic data overlays.
- Empower Crime Reporting: The E-Lapor (E-Report) feature enables users to file digital reports directly to authorities, enhancing response speed and visibility.
- Foster Community Awareness: Through E-Sharing, users can exchange real-life experiences, warnings, and insights to collectively combat street crime.
- Broadcast Trusted Information : A built-in news board ensures up-to-date crime news, with notifications and safety tips that strengthen public preparedness.

After several phases of prototyping, user testing, and expert evaluations, Safetion demonstrated remarkable performance:
- Usability Testing Score: 98/100 (via Maze tools)
- System Usability Scale (SUS) Score: 85% – categorized as Excellent
- Positive Heuristic Evaluations from five professional UI/UX designers
- Key revisions were implemented, such as font optimization, interface consistency, highlighting key features, and improving accessibility for all user segments.
